Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies the results. We do not keep or record those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email you send so that we can respond. The message remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, our servers automatically receive certain technical details about the visit:
- Page-view timestamps
- Your device's assigned IP address
- The referring website, when one is available
- Browser name and version
- Device category and operating system
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to compile traffic patterns, such as popular pages and common exit points. You can block cookies through browser settings, though doing so may cause parts of the website to work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Finding and repairing technical problems
- Operating the website and maintaining reliable page loads
- Displaying advertising that may reflect your interests
- Routing search requests to the appropriate outside service
- Understanding which pages are useful and which need improvement
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. Georgetown County guidance identifies official record holders, including the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, the county and municipal courts, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Criminal Justice Information Services, and the South Carolina Public Sex Offender Registry (SORT). Visitor information is not assembled into reports about other people or into consumer reports. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted through a tool is governed by that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices. Review those terms before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, South Carolina court portals, state agencies, legal-aid resources, and outside search services. Once you follow a link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal information.
Some advertising partners may follow activity across websites to select targeted advertisements. That tracking takes place on their systems, not ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers that process queries submitted through their tools
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
- Advertising networks that place ads on the website
How We Protect Your Data
We use standard security measures to protect collected data. No internet-based system is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with the law where you live. The South Carolina Freedom of Information Act, S.C. Code Title 30, Chapter 4, governs access to records held by South Carolina public bodies, including Georgetown County agencies, rather than private website data. South Carolina's criminal-information and registry provisions in Title 23, Chapter 3 separately control specified public criminal-history and SORT information. For data held by us, you may at least:
- Request deletion of your information
- Ask what information we hold about you
- Opt out of certain processing activities
- Request correction of inaccurate information
Updates to This Policy
We may revise this policy. Any revised text will appear here with a new effective date, so review this page periodically for changes to our practices.
